Souths United and Brisbane Strikers Unite for Female Football in 2026
Souths United and Brisbane Strikers have announced a major partnership for 2026 to deliver comprehensive advanced female football programs under the banner of Brisbane Souths Strikers United but will be referred to as ‘Souths Strikers’. This collaboration is designed to forge a single, seamless pathway for female players ranging from Under 9s through to the NPL Women’s competition which will progressively transition throughout 2026. The partnership will explore other opportunities where the joint venture will enhance development opportunities for emerging female talent by offering an advanced program that complements both clubs’ current offerings.
“Souths United is pleased to enhance our existing female football program this year,” said Souths United President, Tracey Confessore. “In partnership with Brisbane Strikers, the program will provide our female players access to increased technical and operational expertise that will heighten their performance in a professional environment. We view this as an essential first move in our joint effort to expand pathway opportunities for female players and establish a more sustainable club structure, ensuring a high-quality football experience for all involved.”
Brisbane Strikers General Manager, Dino Hasanovic, commented on the new alliance, “Brisbane Strikers is delighted to be partnering with Souths United to launch a unified female football program in 2026. The formation of ‘Brisbane South Strikers United’ establishes a clear progression from grassroots community football to the elite level for women and girls. It broadens player development prospects by leveraging the collective strengths of the two separate established clubs. We look forward to working closely with Souths United to discover other sustainable avenues, that will deliver greater advantages for our participants.”
This initiative is fully supported by Football Queensland, with whom we have collaborated extensively to achieve a positive result for our football community.
To guide the strategic implementation and manage day-to-day operations of the female partnership, an Operational Committee comprising of representatives from both clubs will be established. Souths United’s Wakerley Park facility will serve as the development hub for Under 9 to Under 17 players, FQPL Women’s and Metro Women’s competitions, while Perry Park will be the primary match venue for the Senior and Under 23 squads competing in the NPL Women’s competition. Souths United will be a secondary match venue for the NPL Women’s competition with view to host a selection of matches throughout the season.
