FQPL UPDATE #1

In May 2017, Souths United Football Club was awarded the licencing rights to participate in the newly formed Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL), for five (5) years commencing 2018.  This competition is the second tier of the PS4 National Premier Leagues. The new competition model sees Queensland expand current competition from a 12-team to a 14-team National Premier Leagues Queensland competition with a second-tier 14-team Queensland Premier League featuring promotion and relegation between the two levels. Promotion/Relegation is determined by the top two clubs in championship rankings promoted from FQPL to PS4NPLQLD and; lowest two championship ranked clubs relegated from PS4NPLQLD to FQPL.

Team compositions:

  • Senior Mens
  • Under 20
  • Under 18
  • Under 16
  • Under 15
  • Under 14
  • Under 13

The new competition structure is in line with Football Queensland Strategic plan to raise the standards of football in Australia both on and off the pitch, administration, facilities and motivating their desire to increase the competition’s commercial potential within Queensland, incentivise clubs to improve their professionalism, broaden the development pathways to identify more elite young players and provide a stronger platform for greater government support.

Souths United FC similarly provides opportunity for players to realise their development and playing potential through its provision of excellence in participation at elite competition levels, coaching, facilities and opportunity pathways.  This is further encouraged through our leap to the higher competition level of FQPL in 2018.  To prepare for next season, we have an enormous amount of work to undertake to ensure our teams are ready.  Some key next steps over the forthcoming months include:

  • Review and alignment of current organisational structure to deliver to FQPL, PS4 NPLW and Football Brisbane competition structures and criteria
  • Appointment to positions and recruitment of critical coaching staff
  • Coaching Development Sessions – C, B, & A Licence Levels as appropriate to age groups
  • Seek expressions of interest to participate in FQPL at Souths United: to register your interest click here -> https://form.jotform.co/71772739718874
  • Identification of talent and selection of existing Souths United FC players for retention into the 2018 squad per relevant age groups
  • Conduct player trials and complete final player selections
  • Deliver information sessions and updates to interested parties
  • Finalise fees and inclusions

Other News:

PS4 National Premier Leagues Women’s – On 11 July 2017, it was announced that Souths United FC was successful in our application to be awarded the licence to continue participation in this competition.  This completion has also been expanded to a 14-team league. Preparation and separate update/information will be provided shortly. However the 14-team league consists of the following clubs:

Skills Acquisition Program (SAP) – Souths United FC has applied to have licence to run SAP for both Boys and Girls.  The Skill Acquisition Program will offer an expansion of age groups to U9, U10, U11 and U12 and participation in the Queensland Junior Premier League. Decision on applications is still pending and we will advise once known.

Football Brisbane Competition Structures:  Impacts of the new competition structures at the Football Queensland level have impact on how the Football Brisbane competition structures will operate for 2018 (both Seniors and Juniors).  Draft structures have been circulated to clubs for feedback of which Souths United FC have provided back to Football Brisbane.  The review process will take a several weeks and we will advise outcomes once determined.
